Advice

Our trained staff are available to assist you at all times. If you require immediate assistance please telephone 01425 2789 10 any time day or night. However, if you wish to meet with our staff to make final arrangements or to discuss purchase of a plot, we do recommend that you make an appointment to see us here at Hinton Park so that we can ensure you receive prompt help without delays. If circumstances prevent you from visiting us here, please do contact us as it may be possible for us to visit you at home.

We have compiled some useful general information which we feel may help guide you as to what actions are necessary before and after a death has occurred to ensure your wishes are met.

Preparing for Death

Make Your Wishes Known:
It is important that you make your wishes known about what you would like to happen at the time of death. To ensure your wishes are met, inform your doctor, solicitor, and nearest relative or friend. When people are admitted to a Nursing Home it is common for them to ask who you would like to be called in the event of death. The Nursing Home will then call us and we will attend, providing transport to a place of rest at Hinton Park.

Amending Your Will:
If you have specific wishes for your funeral, and to ensure these are followed, it is advisable to add them to your Will. For example if you wish to be buried at Hinton Park and you have made a Will, simply ask your solicitor to add a paragraph stating that you wish to be buried at Hinton Park Woodland Burial Ground.

If you have not yet made a Will, just make your wishes known to your solicitor, partner, relation or friend asking them to contact us when necessary.

Procedures following a Death
Call Your Doctor:
When a loved one dies at home it is necessary to call your Doctor who must confirm death. Following this, if you wish for Hinton Park to take care of arrangements, you should call us to arrange to take your loved one to a place of rest.

Coroner Involvement:
Sometimes a death is unexpected and the police or a Coroner’s Officer may attend. Whilst this can be distressing it is usual procedure. In these circumstances a person contracted to the police will move your loved one to a hospital for an examination which will establish the cause of death. To obtain appropriate advice and guidance telephone Hinton Park immediately, day or night.

Registering a Death:
All deaths must be registered by The Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths. This is generally a straightforward procedure but one which must be completed. Once death has been certified by the Doctor and you are in receipt of the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death, then telephone your local Register Office to make an appointment to register the death. (Click here for list of local Offices.) Following the registration, they will give you the Registrar's Certificate for Burial or Cremation, which is green in colour, and gives Hinton Park, or your chosen undertaker, permission to carry out the burial or cremation.

Click here for more details about Registration of Deaths.

Once these formalities have been completed, the burial or cremation may take place. Note that if you choose to use Hinton Park we will undertake many of these duties on your behalf as part of our inclusive service.
